Степень открытости обычно зависит от объемов внешней торговли страны или от политической линии ее правительства. Так экономика Великобритании является относительно открытой, поскольку она в большой степени зависит от внешней торговли. Экономика США является относительно закрытой, так как внешняя торговля не столь значима для ее развития.
